Preservation Virginia and the Virginia Department of Historic Resources will be hosting Virginia's annual historic preservation conference in Danville on October 18-19, 2018. This year’s conference will focus on protecting historic resources related to Virginia’s unique history created by the interrelation of three ethnicities-African American, European and Native American.
With the theme of shared history in mind, the conference will emphasize the area’s rural historic resources, Civil Rights history of Danville, Native American history in the region and topics such as protecting and researching historic cemeteries.
The conference will also include sessions with industry professionals on the economic benefits of historic preservation including sessions on heritage tourism and historic tax credits. With the assistance of local history advocates, attendees will also enjoy walking and bus tours including a tour of Danville's River District, the Old West End Historic District, Danville’s Civil Rights-related sites and the River Road Tobacco Heritage Tour.
